Delta High School Students Awarded Scholarships

July 23, 2019

Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation is proud to announce this year’s Robert T. Reynolds Memorial and Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation Scholarship winners -  Amy de Ste Croix and Hanna Hansen. The recipients were each awarded $1,500 and were presented the scholarships at their respective commencement ceremonies in June.

Amy de Ste Croix, a Seaquam Secondary student, was chosen for the Robert T. Reynolds Memorial Scholarship because she excels in academics and athletics as an Honour Roll and Principal’s list recipient and member of School and Rep Volleyball teams as well as the Delta Heat U18 Fastpitch Team. Amy has also been highly involved in her community, volunteering with Delta Special Olympics and Delta Fastpitch Association and showing a passion for philanthropy as a volunteer and fundraiser with the We Charity. Amy plans to pursue a Bachelor of Sciences Degree at Simon Fraser University with a major in Behavioural Neuroscience.

In its twenty-third year, the Robert T. Reynolds Memorial Scholarship of $1,500 is given in recognition of Mr. Robert T. Reynolds’ dedicated community leadership. Mr. Reynolds was a member of one of Delta’s pioneering families that worked tirelessly towards the development of a hospital in this municipality. His tenacity and perseverance were contributing factors in the founding of the hospital in 1977. Mr. Reynolds went on to become one of Delta Hospital Centennial Society’s first Chairmen. The scholarship is open to all Grade 12 students residing in Delta who intend to undertake post-secondary education.

Hanna Hansen, a Delta Secondary School student, was chosen for the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation Scholarship because of her excellence in academics as a regular member of the Honour Roll and Principal’s lists, leadership in athletics with the Delta Heat U18 Fastpitch Team and service to her community including school clubs, Delta Special Olympics, Delta Fastpitch Association and 140 Sports. She has chosen to pursue a degree in Kinesiology and has committed to play softball at the University of British Columbia.

In its second year, the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation Scholarship of $1,500 is awarded to a deserving student pursuing a post secondary education with plans of a career in either healthcare or philanthropy. Participation in extracurricular activities, engagement as a volunteer and demonstrated leadership capacity has a major bearing on an applicant’s success.

“On behalf of the Foundation Board and Staff and the Reynolds’ family, I congratulate both Hanna and Amy on their exceptional accomplishments,” says Lisa Hoglund, Executive Director of Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation. “We are honoured to celebrate these inspiring young women and help them in their future achievements. We were pleased to receive so many outstanding applications and wish you all luck in your academic endeavours.”
