Wubs Family, of Westland Insurance, donate a personal gift of $140,732 to fund COVID-19 related priority equipment for Delta Hospital

September 21, 2020

Mr. Jeff Wubs, founder of Westland Insurance, and his wife Chris made a very generous personal gift of $140,732 towards infection control and priority surgical equipment to Delta Hospital through Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation.

Through the Wubs’ generous donation, two PneumoClear Insullators and eight new camera heads are now in use in Delta Hospital’s busy surgical services department. Due to the risks associated with COVID-19, changes needed to be made to ensure patient safety. The PneumoClear Insullators provide a safe barrier to remove particles down to 0.05 microns which allows for removal of infectious disease particles including COVID-19. Having two functioning towers with these cartridges will now provide safer care to patients and staff while reducing transmission of infectious diseases.

The eight camera heads are used daily for all laparoscopic procedures and surgeries. Delta Hospital’s busy Surgical Services Department performs almost 9,000 surgeries each year for patients throughout the Lower Mainland covering a wide range of surgeries including plastics, general, gynecological, ophthalmology, urology, orthopedics and endoscopy. The additional camera heads are required to handle the volume of patients and allow for increased sterilization due to increased infection control related to COVID-19.

“We are honoured to receive this generous gift from Mr. and Ms. Wubs. Both Mr. Wubs and Westland Insurance have been loyal supporters of the Foundation,” says Lisa Hoglund, Executive Director, Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation. “We feel very fortunate the Wubs family has chosen to support Delta Hospital’s most critical needs, especially with the urgency COVID-19 has created.”

Former residents of Ladner, BC, the Wubs feel a special connection to the community where they raised their family and began operations of Westland Insurance with the acquisition of a single office in 1980.
