DELTA – The Delta Hospital Auxiliary has committed a record-breaking gift of $2.4 million to the Delta Hospital Foundation’s Results: Healthy & Growing campaign for Diagnostic Services. Not only is the Delta Hospital Auxiliary’s contribution the largest gift in the Delta Hospital Foundation’s history, it is also the largest donation from any provincial hospital auxiliary to an individual project and one of the largest in Canada.

“The men and women of the Delta Hospital Auxiliary have been dedicated to supporting Delta Hospital for more than forty years,” said Marilyn Jones, Delta Hospital Auxiliary President. “During that time our members have raised over eighteen million dollars towards the care and comfort of patients, and now are committed to raising $2.4 million toward equipment requirements and expansion of Diagnostic Services. This will positively affect every patient in our hospital as well as the residents of our community and represents our largest single financial commitment so far.”

Since 1968, the Delta Hospital Auxiliary Society has supported Delta Hospital in providing quality health care to this community. Currently, 410 volunteers donate nearly 100,000 hours each year to raise money for state-of-the-art equipment and compassionate patient care through various business units, such as the Dogwood Gift Shop, Courtyard Café, Thrift Store and Lifeline Unit.

“This donation, and incredible milestone, is a testament to the generousity and commitment of the hundred of [Delta Hospital] Auxiliary volunteers to provide our community with the best heath care,” said Keith McGee, Delta Hospital Foundation Chair of the Board and Capital Campaign Committee Chair. “Over the years, the Auxiliary has shown an incredible sense of philanthropy and continue to raise the bar with their generousity and hard work.”

McGee continued: “Right now our Medical Imaging and Laboratory departments are operating at capacity, treating more than 90,000 patients in a space designed for 14,000. Despite this, we are still providing exceptional care to this community. Imagine what our medical team can do with more space and resources. To ensure that happens, the Auxiliary have taken a leadership position to raise these important funds to benefit Delta and our entire community is the better for it.”

The commitment to raise $2.4 million supports the Results: Healthy & Growing Campaign for Diagnostic Services. With the goal of raising $7.5 million of a $12.5 million project, the campaign will support the relocation, and enhancement of Diagnostic Services that will double it in size - making it easier for staff to treat patients and operate more efficiently. It will also allow for 32,000 more patient visits each year.

Delta Hospital Foundation will recognize the Delta Hospital Auxiliary with the naming of the laboratory department in the new project in honor of their commitment to the campaign.
