The TIMS imaging system allows our speech language pathologists to offer the barium swallow test at Delta Hospital. This is a brand-new service to Delta that rapidly diagnoses problems in the pharynx benefitting patients with Parkinson disease, dysphasia, aphasis, pneumonia, and any kind of cancer or stroke. Given Delta’s aging population, this new service is critical to have on-site as patients previously had to travel to other hospitals for this important test.
An exceptional gift of $153,000 from David Harris to DHCHF has funded this new state-of-the-art equipment and allowed for Delta residents to have access to this important diagnostic service close to home.
“My family has deep roots in Delta,” says David Harris. “My Great grandfather, J.B. Burr, arrived with Thomas and William Ladner in 1860 and received the crown grant for his farm in 1861. That same farmland is still in the family. J.B. was a farmer but he was also the first Justice of the Peace in Delta.” Harris adds, “Much of my family still lives in Delta and have used Delta Hospital and related facilities. My mother spent her last years in Mountain View Manor, where she received excellent care.”
“We are honored to receive this very generous gift from David Harris and family,” says Lisa Hoglund, Executive Director, Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation. “Ensuring the best possible healthcare services are available at Delta Hospital as our community grows is our top priority. We are incredibly grateful to have received the Harris and Burr families’ support towards Delta Hospital’s critical equipment needs, this support will benefit Delta’s patient population now and in the future.”
