Project Status: Moving Forward, with a Temporary Pause

Following the February 17, 2026 Provincial Budget, the Province of British Columbia asked all health authorities, including Fraser Health, to review long term care project budgets province-wide. This review reflects current construction sector pressures and is intended to reduce costs — not to cancel projects.

As part of this review, major construction on the Beedie Long-Term Care Centre is temporarily paused while updated timelines and long-term cost certainty are confirmed. Early site preparation continues, with preload materials arriving from early March through mid-May.  While preload remains in place, we are optimistic that Fraser Health and the Ministry will identify opportunities to reduce the cost per bed and advance the project.

As of December 31, 2025, approximately $15 million in Ministry funding had already been invested in planning, preparation, and site readiness. This project is real, it is underway, and it is positioned to move forward once timelines are confirmed. Given the progress already made, this project should not be compared to initiatives that have not yet begun.

To our donors, seniors, families, and neighbours:

For those who have already given so generously, we want to begin with reassurance. Your gift is fully restricted to the Beedie Long-Term Care Centre and is stewarded with care, accountability, and transparency. To date, no funds have been disbursed and none will be released until the project resumes. We remain deeply committed to honouring your intent and to standing up for the project you believed in.

Why This Project Matters — Especially for Our Seniors

This project will replace Mountain View Manor and increase long-term care capacity from 92 beds to approximately 200 beds. For seniors in Delta — and for families hoping their loved ones can receive care close to home — this expansion is essential.

Delta’s seniors are at the heart of our community. Expanding long-term care close to home allows more seniors to remain near the people and places they know, while receiving the care and support they need.

In June 2023, the Beedie Long-Term Care Centre was announced as a partnership between the Province, Fraser Health, and our community. The Ministry of Health committed $179.7 million in capital funding, Fraser Health committed to building and operating the care community, and Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation committed to raise $18.25 million locally. While timelines are now under review, the need for this project — and the community’s commitment to it — has not changed.

Our community did its part — and did it quickly. The Foundation met its $18.25 million fundraising commitment in record time, reflecting both the urgency of the need and the strength of local support. Donors stepped forward in good faith, trusting that this partnership would move ahead as planned.

We recognize that construction costs have increased and inflation, updated accessibility standards, and construction sector pressures have changed the landscape since this project was first announced. These challenges are not unique to Delta. The focus now must be on ensuring commitments adjust to present-day realities so this essential project can continue without further delay.

Our community has honoured its commitment. It is reasonable — and necessary — to expect the same follow-through from our provincial partners.

Advocacy: Community Voices Matter. What you can do.

At this moment, it is not enough to wait quietly. We must continue to stand up — for our donors, for our seniors, and for our community.

The Foundation is working diligently to reinforce to the Province the importance of moving this project forward and the real consequences continued delays would have for seniors and families in Delta.

Community voices matter. In the coming days, we will share simple, easy-to-use advocacy tools — including email and letter templates — for those who wish to lend their voice in support of this critically important project.

Our Commitment to You

The Foundation remains fully committed to the Beedie Long-Term Care Centre — to strong advocacy, responsible stewardship, and open communication. We will continue to share updates and stand alongside our community as this important work continues.

Our seniors are counting on us. Together, we will continue to speak up for the home they deserve.
