We are excited to invite you to join us as at the 2nd annual  Power of Women in Philanthropy event, hosted by Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation in celebration of International Women’s Day. This inspiring event will honor the incredible contributions women have made to healthcare and community well-being in Delta.

On Thursday, March 5th, we will host a special luncheon bringing together 140+ influential community leaders for an afternoon of thought-provoking conversation and celebration. The event will showcase local community voices, with a compelling keynote that will spark inspiration and new ideas. We are also honoured to present this year’s Leadership in Philanthropy Award to Cindy Beedie.

Leadership in Philanthropy Award

We are honoured to present this year’s Leadership in Philanthropy Award to Cindy Beedie.

Cindy is the Executive Director of the Beedie Foundation and a passionate philanthropic leader who supports housing projects, women’s education, and health-care facilities. She is the naming donor for YWCA Cindy Beedie Place, providing 56 safe, affordable homes for low-income single mothers and their children. Cindy also co-founded Beedie Rocks, a music festival that has raised millions for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank and YWCA Metro Vancouver. Additionally, she’s chaired projects and raised considerable funds for both the Vancouver Police Department Foundation and Powell Place, Vancouver’s first women-only shelter on the downtown eastside.

Cindy has received numerous recognitions for her philanthropy including most recently receiving a YWCA Women of Distinction Award (Community Champion Category), a King Charles III Coronation Medal, and recognition as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club of Vancouver. She is also a member of ONE’s Global Leadership Circle, founded by Bono, and holds two consecutive Power 50 Awards from Vancouver Magazine.

Darcy Hortness

Darcy Hortness is a three-time Olympic rower who represented Canada at the Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, and London 2012 Olympic Games, earning a silver medal in the women’s eight at London. A latecomer to rowing, Darcy’s athletic journey is defined by resilience, discipline, and the power of teamwork; lessons that continue to shape her work beyond sport. Following her retirement from elite athletics in 2013, Darcy transitioned into the business world, gaining experience in the financial sector before co-founding Oceano Cleaning Services with her friend and neighbour, Mary Rapier, in Tsawwassen, British Columbia. As an entrepreneur and business owner, she leads with the same values that guided her athletic career: trust, attention to detail, care, and teamwork. Darcy is married to fellow Olympian Richard Hortness, and together they are raising three children. She remains deeply committed to community involvement and youth development. Her past and present volunteer work includes Fast and Female, KidSport, and serving as the Head Cub Scout Leader for the Tsawwassen Hawk Pack. As a speaker, Darcy shares practical insights on resilience, leadership, and translating high-performance habits from sport into business and everyday life.
