We are excited to invite you to join us as at the 2nd annual  Power of Women in Philanthropy event, hosted by Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation in celebration of International Women’s Day. This inspiring event will honor the incredible contributions women have made to healthcare and community well-being in Delta.

On Thursday, March 5th, we will host a special luncheon bringing together 140+ influential community leaders for an afternoon of thought-provoking conversation and celebration. The event will showcase local community voices, with a compelling keynote that will spark inspiration and new ideas. We are also honoured to present this year’s Leadership in Philanthropy Award to Cindy Beedie.

 

Leadership in Philanthropy Award 

We are honoured to present this year’s Leadership in Philanthropy Award to Cindy Beedie.

Cindy is the Executive Director of the Beedie Foundation and a passionate philanthropic leader who supports housing projects, women’s education, and health-care facilities. She is the naming donor for YWCA Cindy Beedie Place, providing 56 safe, affordable homes for low-income single mothers and their children. Cindy also co-founded Beedie Rocks, a music festival that has raised millions for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank and YWCA Metro Vancouver. Additionally, she’s chaired projects and raised considerable funds for both the Vancouver Police Department Foundation and Powell Place, Vancouver’s first women-only shelter on the downtown eastside.

Cindy has received numerous recognitions for her philanthropy including most recently receiving a YWCA Women of Distinction Award (Community Champion Category), a King Charles III Coronation Medal, and recognition as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club of Vancouver. She is also a member of ONE’s Global Leadership Circle, founded by Bono, and holds two consecutive Power 50 Awards from Vancouver Magazine.

Simone Grewal

Simone Grewal is an award-winning broadcaster, keynote speaker, and media communications strategist with more than 20 years of experience across television, radio, and digital platforms in Metro Vancouver and beyond.

A former programming and content leader, Simone has held senior roles with major broadcast networks, including serving as Program Director and on-air host for The Breeze under Stingray Media, where she helped shape audience-driven content and led high-performing teams.

Known for her authentic voice and ability to connect deeply with audiences, Simone has hosted and produced syndicated radio programming, podcasts, and live events, earning industry recognition for her work both behind the scenes and on the mic. Today, she brings that experience forward as a trusted communications strategist, media coach, and sought-after speaker, helping brands, leaders, and organizations tell meaningful stories that resonate.

A natural community connector, Simone has leveraged her platform to support and amplify charitable causes, helping raise millions of dollars for organizations focused on children, seniors, health care, and community well-being. She is deeply committed to advocacy, representation, and inclusion, particularly within the South Asian community, and has served in advisory and volunteer leadership roles with BC Children’s Hospital’s South Asian Division, BCIT’s Radio Arts & Entertainment Program, and Kin Village’s It Takes a Village campaign.

Simone continues to be an active voice in her local community, supporting initiatives such as the Delta Firefighters Snack Program and the Delta Hospital Foundation.

Based in Ladner, Simone lives with her husband and two sons and can often be found at community events, or on the sidelines of a soccer field or hockey rink.
Dr. Ramneek Dosanjh - Keynote Speaker

Dr. Ramneek Dosanjh

Dr. Ramneek (Rummy) Dosanjh is a family physician, hospitalist and child and youth mental health advocate. She is a survivor of gender based violence and a mother to three daughters. She is the current Executive Vice President for North America for the Medical Women’s International Association.

She is the past President of the Federation of Medical Women of Canada and has been a participant at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women for the last two years. She was instrumental in the recent healthcare reform in British Columbia Canada and on the negotiating team for the creation of an innovative new primary care payment model.

Dr. Dosanjh has been involved with the Health Justice Alliance since its inception, facilitating its first dialogue between physicians and lawyers in 2022. She was appointed to the Transform the Family Justice System Collaborative Strategy Committee alongside Chief Justice and Attorney General.

She is an active member of the Indigenous Specific Anti Racism Committee for BC. She has previously served in executive leadership roles such as President of Doctors of BC and BC Family Doctors. She was also a member of Doctors of BC’s Representative Assembly, Digital Health Collaborative and BC coroner's toxic drug supply steering committee.

She previously served as a board member for her Division of Family Practice and on the Child Health BC board for four years. She has been involved in her hospital, health authority, UBC, and the Medical Council of Canada. Dr. Dosanjh was the physician lead for Child/Youth Mental Health Substance Use Collaborative in White Rock/South Surrey and has been a consultant with the White Rock South Surrey Child youth mental health Triage consulting team since its creation. She is passionate about women’s health, equity and intersectionality.

She was born and raised in Ladner, her extended family has been here for over 50 years. She has also worked as a physician for Delta hospital and served the community.

Darcy Hortness

Darcy Hortness is a three-time Olympic rower who represented Canada at the Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, and London 2012 Olympic Games, earning a silver medal in the women’s eight at London. A latecomer to rowing, Darcy’s athletic journey is defined by resilience, discipline, and the power of teamwork; lessons that continue to shape her work beyond sport.

Following her retirement from elite athletics in 2013, Darcy transitioned into the business world, gaining experience in the financial sector before co-founding Oceano Cleaning Services with her friend and neighbour, Mary Rapier, in Tsawwassen, British Columbia.

As an entrepreneur and business owner, she leads with the same values that guided her athletic career: trust, attention to detail, care, and teamwork.

Darcy is married to fellow Olympian Richard Hortness, and together they are raising three children. She remains deeply committed to community involvement and youth development. Her past and present volunteer work includes Fast and Female, KidSport, and serving as the Head Cub Scout Leader for the Tsawwassen Hawk Pack. As a speaker, Darcy shares practical insights on resilience, leadership, and translating high-performance habits from sport into business and everyday life.
