Double your impact for faster cancer screening>>
Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation (DHCH Foundation) is proud to announce a transformative $1 million matching gift from philanthropist Jim Pattison, launching a community fundraising effort to fund a new state-of-the-art endoscopy suite at the Delta Hospital Campus of Care.
In recognition of this extraordinary generosity, the new facility will be named the Jim Pattison Endoscopy Unit—a lasting tribute to a gift that will significantly improve early cancer detection and patient care for the Delta community.
Last November, DHCH Foundation launched an $8 million campaign to fully fund a modern endoscopy suite as part of the Delta Hospital Campus of Care. With planning complete and donor support already building momentum, the matching challenge creates an opportunity for the community to double their impact.
“This matching gift is a powerful catalyst,” said Lisa Hoglund, CFRE, CEO of Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation. “Jim Pattison’s generosity both accelerates this project and inspires our community to come together. Thanks to this gift, every dollar donated this spring will go twice as far in delivering life‑saving diagnostic care close to home.”
Community donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar, turning $1 million in community support into $2 million that will go toward the new endoscopy suite.
The Jim Pattison Endoscopy Unit will replace the existing outdated space and meet the highest modern medical standards. Once complete, it will allow Delta Hospital to increase capacity, improve efficiency, and shorten wait times for critical diagnostic procedures such as colonoscopies—supporting earlier detection and improved patient outcomes.
“When we’re able to offer more colonoscopies, that turns into more early detection of cancer and more treatment options,” said Dr. Juan Mata, Co Head of Surgery at Delta Hospital. “This new unit will make a real difference for patients and families across our community.”
Colorectal cancer remains one of the most common cancers in Canada, with one in 14 men and one in 18 women diagnosed in their lifetime. Early screening saves lives, and demand for endoscopy services has grown alongside Delta’s population—making this project both timely and urgently needed.
The Jim Pattison Endoscopy Unit will include:
“This gift ensures Delta residents will have access to faster, earlier diagnosis without having to leave their community,” added Hoglund. “It raises the standard of care across the hospital and helps ensure our healthcare system can meet growing demand.”
DHCH Foundation invites community members to participate in the matching campaign and help unlock the full $1 million match.
