Community invited to help fund first-ever MRI service at Delta Hospital

DELTA, B.C. – [September 15, 2026] – Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation (DHCH Foundation) officially launching Elevating Care: Bringing MRI to Delta, a community-wide campaign to raise $18 million and bring MRI services to Delta Hospital for the first time in its history. The milestone project will significantly expand access to diagnostic imaging, helping thousands of residents receive care closer to home.

The MRI project is a partnership between Fraser Health and Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation. Fraser Health will oversee construction, staffing, and operations, while DHCH Foundation is raising 100% of the $18 million needed for MRI equipment and renovations. Once operational, the new service is expected to provide up to 10,000 MRI scans annually, significantly expanding access to diagnostic imaging for Delta residents and surrounding communities. Last year alone, more than 5,400 Delta residents travelled outside the community for outpatient MRI appointments.

“Access to MRI services has been a long-standing need in Delta, and one that our community has advocated for years,” said Lisa Hoglund, CEO of DHCH Foundation. “Today, we’re inviting everyone who is passionate about supporting healthcare to be part of the solution. Together, we can bring this essential service to Delta and ensure patients receive the care they need, closer to home.”

MRI scans play a critical role in diagnosing and monitoring conditions such as cancer, neurological disorders, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and musculoskeletal injuries. Currently, Delta residents must travel to other communities for MRI appointments.

Beyond expanding access to diagnostic imaging, on-site MRI services will support more timely clinical decision-making, reduce transfers to other hospitals, improve patient flow, and strengthen care throughout Delta Hospital.

The Foundation’s goal is to raise the full $18 million required to complete the project through community philanthropy, helping bring MRI services to Delta as quickly as possible.

Together, we can bring MRI to Delta and create a lasting legacy for future generations.”

The campaign builds on Delta’s long tradition of investing in local healthcare through philanthropy. Community support has helped fund major projects including the Peter C. and Elizabeth Toigo Diagnostic Services Building, the future Beedie Long-Term Care Centre, and a new Endoscopy Suite at Delta Hospital. These investments have transformed healthcare in our community, bringing more specialized services closer to home and enhancing care for local residents. As Delta experiences significant population growth and a rising number of seniors, demand for diagnostic and treatment services continues to increase. The addition of MRI services is a critical next step in ensuring residents can access advanced healthcare without leaving the community, helping Delta Hospital provide faster diagnoses, earlier interventions, and better outcomes for patients for years to come.
