Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation Announces First Recipients of the Caring for our Community Grant Program

Delta, BC – Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation (DHCH Foundation) is proud to announce the first recipients of the Caring for our Community Grant Program. For the 2025/2026 granting cycle, the program will focus on funding programs and projects that promote mental well-being and/or provide important addictions services for youth and adults.

DHCH Foundation has committed to fund $320,000 over multi-year commitments to the following recipients:

DELTA FIREFIGHTERS’ CHARITABLE SOCIETY – Healthy Snack Program ($60,000)

The Delta Firefighters Charitable Society’s Healthy Snack program recognizes the crucial role that nutrition plays in the learning and development of children and youth in relation to their overall wellness. Food insecurity is a major health issue, impacting physical, mental, and social health by limiting access to nutritious food and increasing the risk of chronic diseases. Through this entirely volunteer-based program, Delta Firefighters Charitable Society feeds over 1,500 children every day across 40 elementary and secondary schools in Delta.

MOVING FORWARD FAMILY SERVICES – DOVE for Children & Families Program ($60,000)

Delta Opposes Violence Everywhere (DOVE) for Children & Families Program aims to educate elementary-aged children on the importance of healthy, respectful relationships and raise awareness about domestic and family violence in a safe, age-appropriate, and interactive way. Through these sessions, students will learn how to build healthy relationships, recognize harmful behaviors, and seek support from trusted adults and available resources – fostering self-esteem, empathy, emotional literacy, and problem-solving skills. This program will deliver 16 workshops per month across two Delta elementary schools, engaging approximately 240 students monthly.

PACIFIC COMMUNITY RESOURCES SOCIETY – Delta Youth Hub ($50,000)

The Delta Youth Hub (DYH) is a collaborative initiative, led by Pacific Community Resources Society (PCRS), with a goal of creating a safe, inclusive, and empowering space for youth in Delta to access integrated services that support their mental health, well-being, and personal development. This is a critical service gap in Delta; vulnerable youth have limited access to mental health and social support. DYH will address this by offering wraparound services in a welcoming, culturally safe environment resulting in a reduction in crisis intervention cases.

REACH CHILD & YOUTH DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION – Counselling Services ($150,000)

REACH Child & Youth Development Society’s Counselling Program provides free, no-waitlist counselling and support group services for local families who have children and youth with support needs. Children and youth with disabilities are significantly more likely to experience mental health challenges. By providing barrier-free services, REACH ensures resilient mental health, promotes well-being for the whole family, and, most importantly, reduces the risk of children going into government care. Through this increased access to counselling in Delta, REACH supports family cohesion and healthy living practices, preventing substance use and addiction and instead, promoting positive coping strategies.

“This new granting program is a way for our Foundation to further support the health and well-being of the Delta community,” said Lisa Hoglund, CEO, DHCH Foundation. “The selection committee was truly overwhelmed by the caliber of applicants and the incredible work being done locally. By investing in organizations that are delivering critical mental health and addictions services, we are helping to build a healthier more resilient Delta.”

This is a significant step forward in DHCH Foundation’s mission to advocate, fund, and inspire outstanding healthcare at Delta Hospital and throughout the broader community. With a vision of delivering the best possible care today and for generations to come, the Foundation is continuing to expand its impact beyond Delta Hospital walls to support community-based health initiatives.
