This week is BC Youth Week! This celebration shines a spotlight on the contributions of young people and strengthens the bond between youth and their communities. As we mark this year’s Youth Week, we reflect with gratitude on the many youth-led fundraising efforts that have supported health care close to home. Through creative fundraising initiatives, whether selling home-baked cupcakes, offering family-grown corn, hosting piano concerts, or completing walk-a-thons, these remarkable youth have shown that philanthropy has no age limit.
Over the past year, several inspiring youth-led efforts have made a meaningful impact at the Delta Hospital Campus of Care. Tsawwassen resident Mina Stefanovic made a meaningful contribution through her Keys for Care solo piano concert, raising $739.71 in support of priority needs. Having grown up performing in local care homes, Mina was inspired to expand the reach of her music to benefit her community.

Students across Delta’s schools also came together to raise funds in support of the Delta Hospital Campus of Care. Hawthorne Elementary led the way, raising $5,724.55 through their Hawthorne Hikers for Delta Hospital fundraiser, with their contribution helping to fund a Vein Viewer that will assist patients in Surgical Daycare and enhance care and comfort. Students at Holly Elementary demonstrated their commitment to giving back by hosting a Lemonade and Bake Sale Fundraiser, raising $162.87 through the sale of $1 treats to classmates. Additionally, Southpointe students Maddie, Elsa, and Paige contributed $430.80 through their bottle drive, supporting additional priority needs at the Delta Hospital Campus of Care.

Our youngest philanthropists also showed remarkable generosity, including Elle, who donated $100 raised through selling cupcakes after choosing to support DHCH Foundation following a recent visit to Delta Hospital’s Emergency Department, and Clint, who hosted his very first Corn Sale, picking corn early in the morning to make it happen and raising an impressive $1,039.10 while continuing his family’s tradition of community fundraising.

These young philanthropists, along with many others, reflect the very best of our community values: compassion, collaboration, and care. Though young in years, their dedication to giving back shows that the spirit of generosity can begin at any age. The Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation is deeply grateful for their inspiring support. Their example reminds us that meaningful change is possible at any age, and that even small actions, when combined with heart and creativity, can leave a lasting impact on healthcare and the community.
