**Proposed Charitable Donation Extension to February 28, 2025>>
On December 30, the Government of Canada announced that it intends to extend the 2024 charitable donation deadline from December 31, 2024 to February 28, 2025. This would mean that gifts made until the end of February would qualify for a 2024 charitable tax receipt.
Why is this change happening?
This extension will mitigate the impacts of the four-week Canada Post mail stoppage by providing donors with sufficient time to ensure their contributions are received and processed, helping charities like Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation ensure they can deliver vital services to the communities that depend on them.
When does this change come into effect?
The Canadian government plans to introduce legislation to put the extension into effect when Parliament resumes on January 27, 2025.
Can guarantee a 2024 tax receipt for my donation?
If you donated to Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation by December 31, 2024, you will qualify for a 2024 tax receipt. It is very likely that charitable donations made between January 1, 2025 – February 28, 2025 will qualify for a 2024 charitable tax receipt as well. However, we cannot guarantee this until the legislative amendments pass on January 27, 2025.
