Irene Thomas Hospice at the Delta Hospital Campus of Care plays a vital role in supporting patients and families during some of life’s most meaningful and challenging moments. We spoke with Jo-Anne Kirk, Clinical Operations Manager for Irene Thomas Hospice and Mountain View Manor, who oversees the day-to-day operations that keep care running seamlessly. “My role is to make sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes so staff can focus on providing quality care,” she explains, noting that her work includes supporting staff, connecting with patients and families, and coordinating with teams across the campus.
Irene Thomas Hospice offers a home-like environment with 24-hour nursing care and specialized palliative support when care can no longer be managed at home. The focus is on comfort, dignity, and peace during an incredibly important time for both patients and their loved ones.
Through the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation, donor support has helped transform the hospice with items that directly enhance comfort and care. The Foundation has funded beds, televisions in every room, mobility equipment, and even an electric piano have all made a meaningful difference, improving comfort, safety, and overall well-being. “Every piece of equipment we receive directly enhances the care and experience we can provide,” says Jo-Anne.
These contributions go beyond comfort to create meaningful moments. Equipment such as the tilt wheelchair allows patients to safely leave the hospice for visits home, time in the garden, or outings in the community. “Those moments of connection are so important for patients and families,” she notes, highlighting how donor support helps preserve independence and quality of life.
For staff, Foundation support ensures they have the tools needed to provide safe, dignified, and compassionate care. It allows them to focus fully on patients, knowing the environment around them is equipped to meet each need. The impact of this generosity is felt every day.
